Often times Parties to a divorce are required to divide their assets.  When that asset is a retirement plan, the Plan’s administrator may require the Parties to obtain an order from the Court illustrating the division of that asset.  This type of Court order is know as a Qualified Domestic Relations Order or QDRO.  QDRO’s require careful drafting as they are the definitive document in the division of said retirement account.
